NEW ANGLICAN DIOCESE
WAiKATO AND TARANAKI. BILL BEFORE GENERAL SYNOD. AN UNFINISHED DEBATE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION. ] DUNEDIN., Wednesday. The chief business at the sitting of the Anglican General Synod this evening was the consideration of a bill providing that the diocese of Auckland be subdivided and that a new diocese be created to bo known as the diocese of Waikato and Taranaki.
The mover, Mr. C. J. 'funks, said that the Auckland Diocesan Synod had discussed the question of the appointment of assistant bishops, but it was thought better that the diocese should be subdivided. The boundaries as altered would not interfere with those of any diocese other than Auckland.
Dean Carxington (Christehurch) seconded the resolution. The bill was then discussed in committee.
On the synod resuming the chairman of committee reported progress and asked leave to sit again, This was given.
