WATERWAY TO WAIKATO.
PROPOSED WAIUKU CANAL. DEMONSTRATION EXCURSION. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] HAMILTON. Monday. With the object of drawing attention to the advisability of constructing a canal as a means of providing direct waterway communication between Onehunga and tho Waikato, via Waiuku, arrangements have been made by the Auckland and Waikato Chambers of Commerce to conduct an excursion down the Waikato River on February 19. The Roose Shipping Company has placed the steamer Manuwai at the disposal of the promoters. The boat will call at Hamilton, Ngaruawahia and Mercer en route, and the passengers will disembark at a point within easy distance of Waiuku. The canal route will be inspected and launches will convey the passengers from Wbiuku to Onehunga or cars will take them to Pukekohe to join the railway service. Invitations are being issued to the Minister for Marine, members of Parliament, and local body representatives.
