DOMESTIC SCIENCE.

NEW QUEENSLAND JSCHEME. STATUS OF HOUSEWORK. Xf domestic scienc© training was maide even as attractive and remunerative as clerical work, and if the status of such house employment is raised, then young girls will forsake the 'office chair for the houses " These views were expressed by the Queensland Minister for Education, Mr. Brennan, when outlining a scheme under which girls who were qualified in domestic science could undertake any household duties jind yet enjoy regular hours of employment. Mr. Brennan said that a departmental conference had been held, and now the university would be approached with a request that students of domestic science should be allowed to enter with two certificates from a technical college, and have to take only three extra subjects to qualify for the junior examination. At present four extra subjects were insisted upon by the university. In furtherance of the scheme, the Minister said that he intended to instal at the Technical College a model kitchen which would illustrate to students how an evening meal could be prepared to as to enable a girl to complete her duties by 6 o'clock. By making household work more attractive, young girls would be encouraged to qualify in domestic science, and subsequently engage in household duties. Such work would not be looked upon as drudgery.
