NELSON PROSECUTIONS. CASES TO GO BEFORE JURY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NELSON. Monday. In connection with cases under tho Gaming Act of alleged bookmaking, Wm. Moxey appeared on remand to-dav charged with using certain premises known as a fruit and confectionery shop as a common gaming house and with carrying on the occupation of a bookmaker. Accused pleaded not guilty to both charges. He elected to be dealt with by jury on the second charge. Counsel asked that- the summary charge be adjourned pending the hearing of the major charge, saying his client would be seriously prejudiced if the hearing of the minor case was taken now. There was also a charge against accused's father that lie wilfully allowed the premises to be used as a common gaming house, and a further charge against ' Morris H, Vivian Maxwell which would go before a jury. All the cases were inextricably mixed up, and ho asked-that all the charges be adjourned so as to allow a clear case to be heard before tho jury. ® The magistrate remanded accused on the same bail as before. The charges against Moxey senior, and Maxwell, alleged bookmaking, and also one against Dominie Merlino of being found in a common gaming house, were also adjourned.
