LEVEL CROSSING WARNING.
DEVICE AT WANGANUI* MOTORISTS MUCH IMPRESSED. [EX TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WANGANUI. Wednesday. Members of the Automobile Association were greatly interested last evening in a demonstration given by Mr. A. I'earson of his apparatus for governing traffic at railway crossings. The device is considered a great improvement on the wig wag system. It consists of revolving wooden arms, operated by electricity. They strike a bell in the course of each revolution. There is a red light on the end of each arm for use at night, and the effect in the darkness is so striking that the signal could hardly be missed by any person. The working of the device was watched, and it was decided to urge the Government to carefully investigate the signal and to try it on one of the city crossings.
