MANGAWARA DRAINAGE.
RIVER BOARD MEETING. MR. F. HERBERT CHAIRMAN. (BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON'. Wednesday.. A meeting of the Mangawara River Board was held: to-da.% Mr. F. Herbert, who was elected chairman, presided. Mr, E. C. Pilkington's action in securing outside legal advice regarding the cost of a commission was endorsed. A division occurred regarding the confirming of the minutes of a meeting held on December 10. The motion was eventually carried. It was decided to advise the Minister for Internal Affairs that since he had negatived the suggestion that the Government take control of the board's affairs, the board was prepared to carry on in the best interests of the ratepayers, Messrs. Pilkington and Law opposed the motion and Messrs. MeCallum and Noble refused to vote. Mr. W. R. Johnson, drainage engineer, Waihou, was appointed consulting engineer. The drainage contractor reported (hat it. would bo necessary to remove several bridges in the Orini district in order to proceed witb the work- A committee was. appointed to confer with the Waikato County Council on tho matter.
