Two Maori boys, William Nathan, agd'ti 19 years, and Uru Paul, aged 14 "years, rode on horseback last Saturday to Whatit.iri and entered the home of Thomas Davis, from which they stole clothing valued at £1 6s 6d. They then rode to Maungat-apere, where they inquired for work. The loss was reported by the owner to the police, and it was not long before 'the youths were arrested at Portland. Thoy appeared at the Whangarei Magistrate's Court to-day before Mr. R. W. Tate, S.M., charged with breaking, entering and theft. On the application of the police, the charge was reduced to one! of common theft. The elder youth had previously been in trouble,*and had been on probation. He was fined £lO and his younger confederate £2 10s.
