TRENTHAM SCHOLARSHIPS.

AWARDS FOR COMING YEAR,

The executive of the Trenlham scholarship war fund has made its awards for the year 1925. Bursaries were awarded to 1(')3 applicants, representing 104 renewals and 59 new awards. The total amount to bo disbursed during the year is £3720, or an average of £22 16s 5d per head.

Tho total amount available annually from the fund, covering principal and interest, over a period of 20 years, a £2800. Tho sum awarded is £880 in excass of this amount, but this has I■•j-.jn lrude possible by the generous assistance of the Canteen and Regimental Trust Fund Board, which has allotted the sum of £1000 per annum for tho next 10 years for the purposes of Trentham bursaries Even with this generous assistance the executive found it necessary, on account of tho largo increase in the numuer cf applications, to reduce the individual amounts.

A close scrutiny of the work done by the bursars during the past year, which was undertaken by the Education Department", discloses a highly satisfactory state of affairs. In every case it appears that the assistance granted is being fully availed of. Education is interpreted by the executive in its widest sense, technical as well as university courses being assisted according to the capabilities of the pupil and the merits of the case.
