THE DRAINAGE WORKS.

A meeting of the Otj'huhu Borough Council was held last week, the Mayor, Mr. R, B. Todd, presiding. The engineer. Mr. Grevillo Walker, asked for information whether the council proposed to call tenders for the Middlemore Area drainage scheme, or whether the work was to be done at the present contract schedule rates. It was decided that the work should be authorised at schedule rate;?. The engineer reported that the construction of the septic tank for the Huia Roevd drainage area was almost Completed. Several complaints with regard to straying horses were considered, the council deciding to prosecute wherever evidence could be substantiated againsft defaulting owners.

Arrangements were made to accept dedication of tho Nikau Road extension. Deputations waited on th<- council with regard to the state of the footpaths in Station Road, also concerning improvements to the mouncipal bandroom. The council promised favourable consideration where possible.
