The damage at the Kourarau electric power works is greater than was at first anticipated and it is likely now that there will bo no power or light for a month. The machinery is silted over to a depth of seven feet. An additional four feet of water on top of the silt was bailed out. A gang is engaged in shovelling silt. The pipe line and surge chamber are intact, but the dam was partially carried away. An excavation behind the dam filled tip so thai it requires re-excavating. The first cloudburst swamped the power house, but this was overcome. The generator was dried out and whs re;«dv to start at 1.30 a.m. The second cloudburst over the dam let the whole storage water down and th<j rush silted up the works.
