NEW POWER BOARD.

. —«•> — RETURNS STILL INCOMPLETE,. FIRST MEETING POSTPONED. A notice in the Gazette signed by the ; Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister ; for Public ; Works, called the first meeting of the | Waitemata Electric Power Board for '• yesterday afternoon, at 3 p.m., in the ' Chamber of Commerce. Several members ' were present, but as the new-board had • nob been elected in that two returns had " ye to come, no meeting could possibly be held. ', It was therefore suggested by those pres- '. cnt that the Hon. J. G. Coates should be informed of tho position that had arisen ' and that Monday, January 5, would be a r suitable date for the first meeting of the • new board. An Order-in-Council will have ) to be gazetted, however, before anything ' can be done. ■ _•.._; , When the Her.axd went to press yes£er--1 day morning, nine of the 31 returns had 1 not come to hand. These returns affected ! j only the Waitemata County and Helens- ' villo town district. Yesterday seven more ; returns came to hand, and the latest re- • suits of the election are as follow:— Waitemata County and HelensviiJe Town i District.— J. Mackis 414, C. S. West 359, F. W. Grigg 341, J. McLeod 329, 11. A. Robertson 320, J. Hand 278, J. C. Rimmer 275, R. D. Stewart 226, and • C. 0. Shuttleworth 122. The only difference in tho positions of the candidates since the results on the polling day is that " Mr. Grigg has forged ahead of Mr. McLeod. The returns yet to come ore from Parakaukau and Titirangi. It is understood that these returns will not be r big ones, and the only likely change is that [ for fourth place. Mr. McLeod has 329 - votes and Mr. Robertson 320. 1 The constitution of the board, therefore, " is likely to be as follow-:—Messrs. A. E. ' Greonsiadfi, J. W. Hayden, E. C. .Walton, a and M. E. Thompson (representing the '? troughs of Takapuna, Birkenhead and - Northeote), W. R. T. Leighton (represent- ' ing the Henderson and Glen Eden Town 3 ; districts), and J. Mackie, C. S. West, ; F. W. Grigg, and either J. McLeod or 1 U. A. Robertson (representing the Wai- ' temata County and Helensville town dis- , trict). •-'••■ ; Members appear very keen to get .to work, and those already elected expressed disappointment that the first meeting of ' ! the board could -not be held until th» ,New Year. ilx-^.-'^i
