FUNDING WAR DEBTS.
VAST FRENCH OPERATION. FINANCE MINISTER'S PLANS. Eeuler. PARIS. Dec. 3.8. M. Clementel, the, Minister for Finance, has. informer! the Fir.anrc Commission of Ihe Chamber of Deputies that ho was preparing a vast operation for the consolidation and redemption of war debts, which he would undertake at the beginning of new year. A. end N.Z. WASHINGTON. Dec. IS. The reported intention of France to discuss the funding of its debt with Britain has given rise to a prediction at the Treasury that the United States Go\ernment, like Britain, would claim equal treatment. Treasury officials declare there, is no leason for a militant attitude, since the representative of France lias already held fc series of conferences on the question with the Secretary of the Treasury, Mr. A. W. Mellon. Since both loans were made to finance the woild war, officials bee no reason for preferential treatment to Britain. Altogether the discussions appear unfruitful, although official;, are hopeful that prospects of an all-round •ettlement will bo somewhat advanced
