A NUTTY TORTOISE.
" Making things is rather a. bother sometimes, isn't it ? Most of the toys you read about seem quite easy to make —until you try. Then you find that you need all sorts of out-of-the-way things that you haven't got. But here is a home-mado toy which is " as easy as pie." All you need is half a walnut shell, a piece of stiffish paper, a pair of scissors and —a little care. Have you ever noticed that a walnut shell is just like the " house " of a tortoise ? If you cut. out the head, legs, tail and body to fit it, your tortoise is complete. Just stick the paper cutting on to the bottom of the shell, bend the legs a. little to make it stand—and there you are. Ordinary gum or glue can be used to stick the two parts together. Not very difficult, is it? Five-years-old has done it. so don't let yourself bo beaten, Master Ten-years-old! Got a few walnut, shells and some paper, and you will have made quite an army of jolly little tortoises in no time.
What stick can you strike only once? A match stick. What is it that everyone wants and yet evervono tries to get rid of ''. — good appetite.
