WHY PUSSY?
Many interesting stones could be told of how the animals got their names. Puss and pussy-cat are now pet names everywhere for the cat, but how did they come about? And when did the christening ceremony occur ? Many, many years ago the people of Egypt worshipped the cat. They thought she was like the moon because she was more bright at night, and because her eyes change as the moon changes, sometimes full. and sometimes a crescent —as every boy arid girl lover of animals has noticed. So the people made an idol of the cat's head, and named it Pasht—the word they gave to the rr«oon. C-'' or * "•»•''" the word changed to "pas,"' and then to "pus,"' as wo know it to-day.
