In reply io tlio .Auckland Grammar School's scoro of 462 runs for nine wickets in the Heathcote Williams Shield match Christchurch High School made 160 and 210. The Christchurch team in both innings appeared to l>e overawed ly the task of reaching tho liig total of the Aucklanders and failed to do so. The wickets fell in both innings with regularity. Merritt gave the best batting display in cach innings and in scoring 77 in the second played a vigorous knock in which his shots generally reached the boundary. Biilclifi" was much more confident than the other batsmen, who failed to get going.

Tho Auckland bowling was steady on the whole, Horsley sending down some beautiful length Lalls.

Christchurch began their first innings with Simes and Jacobs to ihe bowling of Matheson. and Wells. Simes scored a single, and then Jacobs was clean-bowled next ball—l—l—o

Webster went in, and at 23 Simes was smartly run out —£3—2—7. Webster, with Hobbs, added 20, and Webster then hit one to Watkin—44—3— 15. Batsmen Fail to Stay. At 19 Jacobs was clean bowled with a beautiful ball from Horsley—l9 —I—ll.1—11. Hobbs was next, but hit a ball to S. Hay at square leg—24—2 —o. Harris followed, and was clean bowled without sconnt;—25 —3—o. Billcliff and Simes showed more enterprise, taking the total to 63 be r ore Mathcson got Bilicliff's wicket; 63—4 —20. Simes continued for four more runs, and lost his wicket to Casper; 76—5—20. Pickles and Merritt did not last long together, Casper bowling Pickles with a beauty; 87—6 —0. Thorne made a profitable stand until he was beaten bv Hay: 132—7—8. Webster, the ni;xt batsman, soon hit one up to Stewart; 137—8—3. Harper and Merritt laratted well iii partnership. Hay, from the north end, had 64 scored off him in five overs. Merritt's wicket eventually fell to Casper after a forceful innings; 193 —B—3.8 —3.
