TO-DAY'S FORECAST.
GOVERNMENT REPORT.
The Government meteorologist reported last night ai; follows: —Present indications are for strong westerly to southerly winds northward of ]Sew Plymouth and Castlepoint and south-easterlies, strong to gale, elsewhere. Expect cold and unsettled weather with rain generally, and heavy rain., with rivers rising, about Cook Strait and in the north-east districts of the South Island. Barometer rising in tl.o north and elsewhere soon.

Vincent last evening:— Cloudy and unsettled weather, with raifti, will rulo for a short while, particularly in western arid southern districts, followed by an early improvement in conditions, with further fine weather ruling generally.
