PURCHASES FOR CHRISTMAS.
fine displays in shops.
GIFTS FOR YOUNG AND OLD.
SUGGESTIONS FOR PRESENTS.
With only a week till Christmas visitors are already pouring into the city to make their purchases. Tho streets become more crowded every day and shops are busy in preparation. Windows are paily decorated, and are filled with innumerable objects suitable for gifts. So inexhaustible is the variety that every purse a;ad every taste must find enough to satisfy it and more.
For the children there are toys both old and new, and for grownups there are gifts long popular and others almost unknown as yet. In addition, there are all the everyday articles which must bo bought at this, just as at any other season, of the year.
This Christmas, so far as can be judged at present, should be a record one. Prices for wool are high and the production of butter, promises to surpass all previous figures. With tho farmers, the backbone of tho country, so prosperous, there are none who cannot face the future with coufidcnce.
On this page will bo found suggestions for gifts that- cover practically everything the heart could wish for. To realise the endless variety of it all one must actually see the shops themselves. Tho difficulty then will be not to find something suitable, but to chooi-e the most suitable out of countless possibilities.
In conclusion, the old warning cannot be too often repeated. If you would do your buying in comfort and have an opportunity to examine and select your gifts with care, it is absolutely neccssary that you should shop early before the rush at this merry season reaches its height..
