ALLEGED FORGERY.
ENGINEERING DEGREE. MAN COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] GISBORXIS. Wednesday. An engineer, Arnold Edward Rhodes, 31 years of age, was charged to-day with forging a certificate purporting to confer on him tho degree of Bachelor of Engineering. Evidenco was given that accused had been in tho employ of tho Vacuum Oil Proprietary from June, 1923, to September, 1924, as a lubricating engineer. The police said he had stated that he had taken a course of two and a-half years' duration at a school in Christchurch and that on completion of the course he sat for an examination and passed, and was under the impression that he could use tho B.E. degree after his name.
Tlio registrar of the university stated that the certificate produced was not a university diploma.
Accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the Supremo " Court for trial.
