MANY CASES DEALT WITH.
A meeting of tho commitbeo of the Society for tho Protection of Women and Children and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was presided over by tho Rev. I'. S. Smalllield. The secretary reported 24 cases in the women's and children's department. The inspector reported giving 20 cautions in cases of horses and other animals neglected or ill-used. Six animals had been humanely destroyed. Air. 11. Brett was elected a life-member. It was decided to invite the GovernorGeneral, Sir Charles Fergusson, to become patron. Miss Statham, director of the Girl Guides' Association, addressed the members on tho objects of tho movement and suggested that the society should affiliate, one of the Guide law's being "to bo kind to animals." It was resolved to affiliate as requested. Air. Sorrell-Cox. Hon. inspector at Cambridge, stress'd tho necessity for oxtei'diug operation i throughout tho Waikato. It was resolved that a deputation from the committee visit the various centres in the Waikato with a view to helping them to form societies. It was resolved to send a remit to the National Council of Women asking it to consider what could bo done for tho protection of charwomen and laundresses employed by the day, as they were not under thc employers' liability provision.
