STEAMER KAWAU SOLD.
OYSTER TRAWLER AT BLUFF.
Tho Devonport Ferry Company's wooden steamer Kawau has been sold to Mr. J. Bradshaw, of Bluff, and is to be employed as an oJ*Bt«r trawler. Tho Kawau has had a varied career as a yacht, mail steamer and ferry boat. Tho vossol was built by Mr. W. Holmes at Dovonport for Mrs. Buxton, who then owned Kawau Island, and she utilised tho steamer as a yacht. The vessel wa3 nest bought by the Jato Captain Allen, who took her to Samoa, where she was employed in the mail and passenger service between Apia and Pago Pago. Afterwards sbo proved too small for the service and Captain Allen sold her to Mr. Macgregor, of Auckland. Aftei a few months at this port the Kawau was rosold and sent to Helensville. She was employed there until about 12 years ago, when tho Ferry Company bought her.
