The chairman of the Food Prices Inquiry, Sir Auckland Geddes, to-day questioned Mr. Thompson, an officer of the Ministry of -Agriculture, who was giving evidence in reference to Covent Garden's " illegal practico " of paying farmer!, the daily average prices instead of actual realisations on each parcel.

Mr. Thompson admitted that though this system had b< ?,n condemned, the Ministry of Agriculture had taken no action. It held that it was for the farmers to pet.

A member of the commission, Mr. Bylands, suggested that the trust was controlling both the cold stores and wholesale and retail distribution. It might, he said, " rig the mrrket," as it was not required officially to record the quantities in storage.
