A "SAFETY" EDUCATION.

In the interests of motorists and pedestrians alike, the South Tatanaki Automobile Association has found- it necessary, in view of the growth of motor-driven vehicles using the tar-sealed roads, to educate all who use these thoroughfares in tho laws of safety. The familiar triangle signs and other warnings have been placed at street intersections, school approaches, and other danger spots. The association has now undertaken a scheme to educate the children as to the necessity of observing curtain cardinal rules in negotiating crossings, passing traffic, and the like. 'Hie schools in the district are being visited, and brief addresses are given to the pupils. At the conclusion of each address questions are asked. Already the effect of this instruction is being noticed, and a group of children in the path of an approaching motor now move in one direction, instead of scattering, to the dismay of the driver. That the children thoroughly appreciate these lecturettes is evident from the interesting answers given to the questions raised by speakers. One prominent Hawera motorist, who has taken up the work with enthusiasm, asked a class what the association's triangle was like. A number of hands immediately (lew up, and one little fellow, looking at the speaker with a sparkle in his eye, said, Please, sir, I know. It's a square with three sides."
