BETTER CLUTCHES.
An outstanding feature of the presentday motor vehicle is the efficiency of the cratch mechanism with which the designers'have provided it. Time was when clutches caused no end of trouhle; since then there have been many developments, and the design of this part of the transmission has passed through numerous phases, starting with the leather cone and including the multiple disc, multiple plate and single d' : 3c types of construction. Simplicity of c':esign seems to havo at last become the order of the day. Tho plate clutch and the cone clutch are both now made remarkably efficient, and wear and fool-proof. Clutch troubles to-day almost invariaably arise from neglect or improper treatment. They are practically never tho result of bad design.
