ADELAIDE SENSATION.
A MINISTER REPROVED
STRIKES AGED POLITICIAN.
A. and N.Z. SYDNEY/. Dec. 11. An argument occurred in the vestibule of the Legislative Assembly reg; rding a bill which Mr. T. Butterfield, commissioner of Crown lands and Minister for Agriculture, is sponsoring. Mr. Butterfield is alleged to struck Mr. James Grey Moseley, aged 76, the oldest member of the House, a blow in tho face, which blackened his eye. Tho incident was subsequently discussed in the Assembly. Mr. Butterfield apologised, and stated that serious reflections iiad been cast upon him.
When members began to talk of penalties, the Speaker, who was the only witness of the assault, said he would take the matter entirely into his own hands and announce his decision later. When the /s.tsembly resumed, ihe Speaker expresstid his severe disapproval of the disorderly conduct of the Minister. He censured the hitter's reprehensible action, and ordered that it be recorded. He accepted as an end to the incident the Minister';; expression of regret and tho apology tendered to Mr. Moseley and to ihe Assembly.
