ASSISTANCE TO SOLDIERS.
EXPENDITURE AND INCOME.
The executive committee of the Auckland Patriotic Association met yesterday. The chairman, Sir James Gunson, presided.
It was decided to retain tho launch, La Mascotto, for the use of soldier patients at Rotorua until the end of the summer, when the question of her disposal would be again considered. A grant of £300 was received from the Government for the Veterans' Home at Mount Roskill in aid of expenditure in the current financial year. The Claims Board reported that during the past quarter 345 applications for assistance were considered, and sums totalling £1459 were granted to 204 applicants, the remaining 141 being refused. In tho past nine months 1167 applications for assistance had been considered, against 1280 in the corresponding period of last year. It was decided to continue the custom of making a Christmas present to each coldier in the T.B. huts in tho Domain and the Evelyn Firth Home. The Permanently Disabled Soldiers' Board reported that, of nine applications considered, three were declined, one deferred, and five granted. The amount voted v/us £666, which brought the total of grants to £95,283, representing assistance given to 465 permanently disabled soldiers. The average grant was slightly over £200. The Finance Committee, reported that tho past quarter opened with funds totalling £159,211, and closed with £156.740. Receipts included interest, £11114, and r«» funds from Southern associations, £1665. Mr. A. S. Bankari noted that tho shrinkage of funds was under £2500, and that the association was i.pproaching a balance between expenditure and income. Tho provision of now uniforms for inmates of tho Veterans' Homo was referred to tho Homo and Finance Committees with jiower to met.
