OBITUARY.
MISS ISOBEL WHYTE. The death occurred at Rotorua yesterday afternoon of Miss Isobel Mary Whyte. matron of the King George V. Hospital. . Miss Whyte was trained as a nurse in Auckland, and later served in the Bfln-' burgh Infirmary, Scotland. She later became attached to the staff of Queen Alexandra Military Hospital, London, and when war broke out proceeded with the first detachment of nurses with the Brit* ish Expeditionary Force to France. Miss Whyte served throughout the war, and was awarded the Royal Red Cross, first and second classes, besides being mentioned in despatches. She was also ordered to appear before Queen Alexandra at Marlborough House. About 12 months after the armistice she returned to New Zealand, and was for a time matron of the ! Coromandel Hospital and Pukeora Sanai torium. She was later appointed matron i of the King George V. Hospital, Rotorua. She became ill about a month ago, but her condition was not 1 thought to be serious. At 2 p.m. yesterday her condition became suddenly critical and she »I§| died an hour later. Miss Whyte was the daughter of Mrs. J. J. Whyte, of Hamil- i •*' , ton. The interment will 'take place at Hamilton to-morrow.
