BEQUEST TO AUCKLAND.

SUM OF £3000 TO BE AVAILABLE.
Details of a bequest oi: almost £3000, made to the City of Auckland under the will of Mrs. S. S. B. Burton, the wife of Lieut.-Colonel Henry Burton, formerly of Auckland, were placed before the City Council last evening.
A legal firm of Bournemouth, England, wrote stating that under the will onetenth of the residuary estafte was held upon trust to pay Evelyn W. BBS.nall, the income from the amount for life, and that after her death the one-tenth share was bequeathed lb " The Mayor ami citizens of Auckland for such charitable purpose, not being iwcfcarian, as the Mayor in council may approve or recommend, provided W»«* at least one-quarter of such sum be allotted o the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals." It was stated that the tenth share, which amounted to £2942 16s 7d, had been invested in 5 per cent. War Stock. Accompanying the letter was a capital distribution account showing the realisation of the whole estate of £29,428 5s 3d, which the council was asked to approve.
