A RUNAWAY CAR.
PLUNGE OVER A BANKo VEHICLE STRIKES A HOUSE.[BY TELEGBAPH. —OWN COBBESPONDENT. ] WHANGAREI. Wednesday. An accident of an unusual kind took place at the upper end of Portland Road. A baker's cart was standing in the roadway unattended when a motor-car ap- ' proached. The horse gave signs of becoming restive and the two occupants of the car alighted for the purpose of pacifying the animal and leading it past. As they approached the horse, however,:; an onlooker cried that the car was run* :;. ning downhill. Both men dashed to pm-r :'.+-. vent an accident, but could not reacbi . the car, which went over a bank fully. 18ft. high, and fell against a house, dis- 1 lodging a verandah post but otherwise doing little harm. The car was considerably damaged.
