cused was then fairly drunk, and was about to drivo his motor-car. Ho advised accused to leave the car alone until he sobered up, and warned him that if he drove the car in his then condition he would probably bo sent to prison for seven days. Half-an-hour later the car had gone, and Constable Kirby received a complaint that accused was driving the car toward Cambridge. The constable, who was in uniform, commandeered a car and gave chase. An exciting run followed, accused's car _at times spelling at tho rate of 40 miles an hour, ft went from side to side of tho road, and nearly capsized. Even when the constable got ahead of him accused would not stop. Mrs. McAsey was the only other occupant of accused's car. She diil her best •to get control. Accused was overtaken near Cambridge, where he turned up a wrong road and was placed under arrest. i Mr. J. F. Strang pleaded for leniency lon behalf of accused.
