EXCHANGE IN NEW YORK
HIGH RATE FOR £ STERLING
NEW REICHSMARK QUOTED-
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 5.5 n.m.) NEW York. Nov. 8.
The rate for the £ sterling to-day reached a new high level for this year, being in demand at 4 dollars 59J cents. This represents an advance of 1$ cents since Thursday.
The movement is regarded as reflecting rather a general relief in the market than any change in the international situation, also to optimism in the outlook on foreign affairs, and the political settlement in Britain and America.
Other European exchanges have emulated the sterling, a new high mark having been reached in Dutch and Swiss currency.
The new German reichsmark was quoted in Wall Street yesterday for the first time. The quotation was at par, 23.8 c. per 100. The Swedish kroner for the first time this year sold at above par.
