SHIPPING DEADLOCK.
POSITION IN AUSTRALIA. SEVERAL MINOR AFFRAYS.: A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. Nov 8. Several minor affrays between wharf labourers from the Shipping Bureau and others, occurred at Woolloomooloo, when the men ceased work. The trouble arose through bystanders applying certain epithets to the bureau men as they passed. The police were quickly on the scene. No serious injuries were reported. There is no outstanding change in respect to the overtime strike at Melbourne, although further delays occurred to inter-State steamers. If these delays continue steamers will be laid up and the crews paid off.
The Moreton Bay and Ferndale are still held up.
A protracted dispute is expected.
