AUSTRALIAN APPLE TRADE. A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE. Nov. 8. No bounty is likely to bo granted by the Federal Ministry this year to apple growers. Mr. Wilson, who is in charge of assistance to marketing, has received a cablegram from the Agent-General, Sir Joseph Cook, stating that between 40,000 and 60,000 cases of applea were brought on the open market in London this year for sale at the Empire Exhibitioa at an average price of 16s lOd per case. The cost of marketing left the growers a return of 8s per case at the tree. Growers recently informed Mr. Wilson that the industry would be profitable if they were assured of a return of 4s a case at the tree. It is estimated that if the Empire Exhibition reopens next year, 100.000 oases will be sold.

PEDIGREE DAIRY SALES. A e'\e> of pedigree Jerseys was conducted by Messrs, Abraham and Williamß, Ltd.. on account of Mr. G. A. Gammon, of Marton. The best price was 61 guineas for a cow, Oxford Silver Fox. the buyers being Messrs. Murray and Martin, of Temuka. who also gave the next best prioe, 56 guineas, for Bridge View Nettie. Other prices ranged from 40 guineas to 19 guineas. The same firm, in conjunction with Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Ltd., and Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd., held a sale of pedigree Friesians on account of the Bloomfield Company. The attendance was very snisll, and very few animals found buyers. The top price was for a yearling heifer, "Bloomfleld Mercena Galatea." sold to Messrs. J. Court, Ltd., Auckland, for 72 guineas.
