DIED IN HIS SLEEP.
ELDERLY MAN'S END.
A street musician, Thomas Edward Calvert, aged 67, died suddenly in his bed at tho Mount Eden Gaol about four o'clock yesterday morning.
An inquest was held before the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., yesterday.
Thomas Vincent, superintendent of the gaol, stated that deceased was admitted on Tuesday, having been remanded for a week for medical treatment on a charge of drunkenness. He was suffering from the effects of drink.
Dr. D. N. W. Murray said ho had attended deceased previously and had warned him that if he did not stop drinking he would die suddenly. Death was duo to heart failure, following valvular disease of the heart.
A verdict in accordance with the medical evidence was returned.
