NORTHERN AUSTRALIA.
ADVANCES TO SETTLERS.
A Northern Territory ordinance, authorising advances to settlers " to provide for the encouragement of primary productions," has been issued by the Australian Government, The Northern Territory Land Board is constituted the Primary Producers' Board to administer the ordinance. Advances to any producer must , not exceed £600, and may be made for machinery, implements, or plant, fencing, or other improvements, the provision of rations for limited periods, until prodncts are available, seeds, fishing nets, joan of luggers or other boats, purchase of Jive stock, any timber industry, and for <kny other purposes recommended by the board and approved by the Administrator, The board may provide a producer with free railway tickets for himself and family to his holdings; or any limd he intends to select. The interest on advances will be at 5 per cent., and after five years advances snail be rejjaid by 26 equal yearly instalments with simple interest at. 5 per cent, on the unpaid balance.
