By Ttloerapn—Press Association—Copyright i (Received 7.5 p.m.) I Renter. LONDON, Oct. 31. i The Labour Party's manifesto, which is ! be published on Monday, charges the I Liberals and Conservatives with conspiring to force an election, thus preventing i the submission of a number of measures % I which would have been passed during the i autumn session and next year. These vonld havo included the taxation of land values, pension;: for women deprived of their bread-winners, and a progressive scheme for the reorganisation of the elec- , tricity supply in the country. The most interesting of last evening's speeches was that of Mr. J. H. Thomas, Secretary for the Colonies. Speaking at ; Derby ho said that if there had been a j pressure of the Government in connection with the Campbell case h.- would unhesijiVtAting.lv have resigned. M ' Mr. Hamilton Fyfe, editor of the Labour paper, the Daily Herald, speaking at Tunbridge Wells, said that the chief factor in the production of the present situation -was the same alliance which, prior to the 1923 election, was attempting to secure the return of the Coalition. The scheme which Mr. Lloyd Gtiorge, Mr. Chamberlain, Mr. Winston Churchill and Lord Birkenhead had plotted, failed owing to the collapse of the Coalition Liberals, but the idea had not been abandoned.
The New Statesman, a review which has generally supported the Labour Government, scathingly attacks the Prime Minister, Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald. It says that as Leader of the Opposition he was tough enough. As Prime Minister he seemed too thin-skinned to live. The ! writer adds: " If we were not aware of his rigid sobriety vre should have said that no sober man could say what Mr. MaoDonald said at the Labour Conference on Tuesday. His epithets passed belief. The election has been precipitated because gomeone wounded Mr. Mac Donald's ridiculous amour propre."
