ARRESTED IN GOOD TIME.

DRUNK WITH £151 IN POSSESSION

A. number of cases were dealt with by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court on Saturday.

Thomas Henry O'Brien, aged 52, who did not appear, was charged with having been found drunk in Princes Street ard having committed a breach of his prohibition order. It was stated that when arrested he had £151 in his possession, and had been liberated on bail of £1.

The Magistrate: Well, he has only got £149 now, for his bail is forfeited, and he is also fined £1.

THEFT OF A CORNET.

Charged with stealing a cornet, of the value of £15, John Joseph Blake (Mr. Matthews), aged, 19, pleaded guilty. Chief-Detective Cummings said accused got out of work, and pawned the cornet. He was a married man, and so far aa the police knew his general character had been quite satisfactory. Counsel said that accused had been paying £2 7s 6d for rooms and when he got out of work had no money to fall hack on. He had since got other work. It was stated that the £4 for which the cornet had been pawned had been paid back. The magistrate, in convicting and discharging accused, said he would not give him another chance.

WATERFRONT BRAWL. A waterfront dispute resulted in Ernest Jenkins, aged 41, a seafaring man from the steamer Mamari, appearing on a charge of having assaulted Jkmes Murray/ Sub-Inspector Bird said Murray was struck by a " square-rigger." The magistrate imposed a fine of 20a, in default imprisonment Accused: I want to go to prison. I don't want to pay the fine. The magistrate ordered accused to be placed on board hia whip when she sailed to-morrow. DRUNK AND NUDE. Described as an oiler on board the American steamer West Islip, Howard West, a citizen of fhe United States, aged 34, was charged with having been found drunk on board the ferry steamer Kestrel early on Saturday morning, and with having committed mischief by breaking a pane of glass oh board that vessel, the property of the Devonport Ferry Company. * Sub-Inspector Bird said tluat accused was found on board the Kestrel about 1 a.m. in an absolutely naked condition. The magistrate fined accused ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment for being drunk, and £1 for committing mischief He was further ordered to pay 12s 6d for the damage done, and 15jj for motorcar fare.

DRINK AND INDECENCY. A well-dressed middle-aged man, David Mitchell, pleaded guilty to having been found drunk in Nelson Street, and to having committed a grossly indecent act. A fine of ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment, was imposed for drunkenness, and 40s, in defa,ult seven days' imprisonment, on the second charge.
