OTAHUHU IMPROVEMENTS.
ROADING AND WATER SUPPLY.
COMMEMORATIVE FOUNTAIN.
The commencement of the comprehensive roading and water supply schemes at Otahnhu, for which loans totalling £70,000 were recently raised by the Borough Council, was celebrated at Otahuhu on Saturday when a public gathering was held. The Mayor, Mr. R. B. Todd, presided. A handsome drinking fountain, presented by the contractors, Messrs. Grinter Bros., was unveiled by the Mayor, after which members of the Borough Council and guests were entertained at luncheon hi the Masonic Hall. Replying to .a toast, the Mayor referred to the great progre.s made by the borough during recent years. Business premises and residences were being erected on all sides and further large works were contemplated. Tho attendance at the public school was over 650, and additional classrooms were to be built immediately to provide for the increasing population. The gathering concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
