POWER FOR NEW LYNN.
MINISTER'S NEW PROPOSAL.
SUPPLY. TO NEW BOARD.
FURTHER REPRESENTATIONS. The question of supplying industrial concerns at New Lynn was further discussed by the Auckland Electric Power Board yesterday. The position at present is that the board wishes to fulfil its promise to supply power, but as the concerns are outside the board's area, a temporary license is required. The Minister for Public Works, the Hon. J. G. Coates, has refused to grant this license.
A further letter from the Minister was read yesterday. The Minister stated that ho could not authorise the board to supply power to New Lynn. Ho was willing, however, for tho board to sell power in bulk to the Waitcrnata Board, which could make supply arrangements with tho consumers. .
Tho chairman, Mr. W. J. Holdsworth: That's the limit. ■ Tho Waitcmata Board has not a'polo, a wire, or an office. How are they going to receive our power ? They can't receive a ha'porth and won't be able to for 18 months.
Mr. Holdsworth added that the" Minister had power under the Act to grant the Auckland board a provisional license. He was simply playing fast and loose with the wholo thing.
It was decided to reply to tho Minister again, urging the issuo of a provisional license under Section 59 of the Act. It was also decided to inform the Minister that one concern was rj&w discovered as being in Avondale, and thus in tho board's area, so that it would be supplied direct.
