EXTENDING BLIND ROAD'S.
TWO PROPOSALS UNDER REVIEW.
The Mount Eden Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. .E. H. Potter, presiding. There woro also present: Messrs. S. Ne\vcomb, L. Joll, J. M. Melville, R. McK." Morison, G. L. Taylor, F. Morris, W. G- Lange, J. Smith, and W. W. WooUey. A proposal to continue Marlborough Street, a blind street, through to Burnley Terrace was referred to by the Mayor, in discussing an offer from the trustees of the late Mrs. Hirst's estate to sell a-portion of the property at £8 per foot, the council to move, the ; existing house at a cost of £160. Mr. Potter said the proposed road would be 66ft. wide and would go 44ft. trough the property. Messrs. Lange and Melville contended that the price was too high when the cost of removing the house and constructing the roadway was taken into consideration. Further consideration was deferred. - : -
; A deputation of residents of Peary Road urged the purchase of a section to give access to Marsden Avenue. A committee of, three was appointed to inspect the neighbourhood and report./ to the council. , The concrete road construction work in ' the borough was reviewed by the engineer, Mr. J. Rogers. Since work was commenced in Dominion Road on August 26, 2002 ft. of concrete' paving had been laid- A total of 2100 ft. of concrete had been laid so far ~in Sylvan Avenue. ' S ' ; ;.-;
The engineer stated that in carrying out the proposed drainage of the southern zone of the borough, both sewerage and stoi{m /water /would/ bo conveyed ■through the same drains. The general features of the scheme will be considered by / tho Works Committee at an early date.
/The foreman reported that Shackleton Road had. been metalled and coated with bitumen, and that similar work in Mont le Grand Road would be completed in a few. days. Mr. Taylor reported . that the excava-; tion work at Nicholson Park would be completed to-day. The clay deposit would be left until January or February, when surface soil would be laid down preparatory to the sowing of grass. The engineer, was instructed to call tenders for the construction of a road through tho park.
