WORK AT McLAREN'S FALLS
STEADY PROGRESS MADE.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAURANGA. Saturday. Tho Tauranga Borough Council has decided to extend an invitation to representatives of the Tauranga Electric Powor Board and representatives of tho Opotiki and Whakatane districts to inspect the hydro-electric works at McLaren's Falls. Tho borough engineer, Mr. L. Mandeno, has been instructed by tho council to draft an agreement between the council and tho Power Board in regard to tho supply of eloctricity to the board. The engineer reports that 'good progress is being made with tho hydro-olectric works at McLaren's Falls. Some of tho plant is due to be landed at an early date. Somo trouble has been mot with at the western abutment of tho main dam, and excavation is being carried out to ensuve a reliable foundation. The intake structure has been carried to within 18in. of the top. Tho transmission line to Tauranga has bean completed, and the route to Katikati has been fixed as far as Whakamarama. The necessary poles have been landed, and will bo distributed along this portion of tho lino this month.
