AVONDALE IMPROVEMENTS
TWO LOAN SCHEMES CARRIED
DRAINAGE AND FIRE ENGINE.
Proposals to borrow £15,000 for drainage reticulation, and £750 for the purchase of a motor fire engine were carried out at a poll of the Avondale ratepayers held on Saturday. Included in the former proposal was £1500 to assist ratepayers in installing drainage. The voting was as follows:— For. Against. Maj. Drainage ■„,,, 102 11 91 Fire Engine ... 154 30 124 A poll for drainage reticulation was taken about four years ago, and carried by the ratepayers, who, however, rejected a proposal for a main sewer, with the result that the reticulation scheme was useless. Owing to the growth of the town since that time the boundary of the special drainage area has been altered, and it was therefore decided to take a fresh poll.
