SOUTH AFRICAN CRICKETERS.
OPPONENTS' GOOD LEAD.
A. and N.Z. LONDON. Sept. 11. In tho match Thornton's Eleven against South Africa, the former made 611 runs for six wickets and declared. Holmes made 202 (not out), Hendren 101, and Rhodes 56.
The South Africans, who, in their first innings made 143, in their second innings made 45 runs for the loss of no wickets. Holmes, who batted 306 minutes, hit twenty fours. Ho gave two chances. With Hendren he added 170. The scoring was monotonous against the tired bowling. Hendren, who gave two chances, hit one six and nine fours. Rhodes and Holmes added 122 for the fifth wicket in 75 minutes. Hendren competed two thousand runs for the season.
Eight bowlers wore tried, Nourse taking two wickets for 51 runs.
