HELP FOR POULTRYEN

IN ABEYANCE THIS YEAR.

STATEMENT BY MINISTER.

FBI TELEGRAPH. —SPECIAL REPORTER.] WELLINGTON, Wednesday.

The granting of special financial assistance to the poultry industry will probably be left in abeyance until next year.' The Minister for Agriculture, the Hon. W. Nosworthy, in reply to a suggestion by the New Zealand Farmers' Union, that the poultrymen should be *placed upon the same footing as the fruit industry s pointed out that one of the principal factors governing the granting of the guarantee in the case of fruit was the inability of the growers to secure satisfactory advances against, their produce in the absence of a guarantee, but no tromble in this respect appeared to have been experienced by the poultrymen, in fact, it was said that advances had been forthcoming in advance of any limit tho Government could (reasonably be expected to guarantee. "As yoii are no doubt aware," the Minister concluded, "payable prices were obtained for three shipments of eggs exported last year and there, is every reason to believe that the financial results this year will be still mora satisfactory, as it is confidently anticipated that overhead charges will be reduced by the adoption of more economical methods in handling the eggs. It is, therefore, considered that the question of granting financial assistance may well remain in abeyance until the financial results of this year's shipments are known."
