BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH.
"SHORT CUT" AGAIN CLOSED.
The Birkenhead Borough Council met last evening. The Mayor, Mr. E. C. Walton, presided, and there were also present":—Messrs. C. E. Campbell, E. G. Skeates,A. Hadfieid, L.R. L. Mol'ler, A. E. Wood, W. Worthington, T. Farrell and F. A. Gilpin. The Mayor said the- reclosing of the "short cut" footpath to tlie. wharf was inconveniencing a large number of people. It was decided that the council again inspect the locality with regard to the slip generally. Mr. F. E. Powell, C.E., advised that the council could do nothing in reason to prevent subsidence of material, which was saturated with moisture. He considered there was no risk of the soil coming away with a rush and blocking Hinemoa Street. The council decided to ascertain]the formation of the underlying 'andstone ■by means of boring, with a view to permanent repairs.
