SAFEGUARDING PEDESTRIANS
LOCAL BODIES' CONFERENCE.
PROPOSAL BY HARBOUR BOARD.
An invitation from the Auckland Harbour Board to a conference of representatives .of the local bodies concerned, to discuss safeguards for pedestrians in connection with the proposed railway in Quay Street, was received by the Birkenhead Borough Council last evening.
A copy of a new clause for insertion in the bill now before Parliament was also received. This provided for a conference «f representatives iof the local bodies named, subject to appeal from such decision to a Judge of the Snpreme Court, to decide what safeguards, jf any, for pedestrians were required, after the sidings were in operation. The council decided to inform the Harbour Board that all matters in connection with the waterfront railway were being dealt with by t'he Marine Boroughs' Association, to whirh the Communication must be referred. .
