CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF.
THE DOMINION TOURNAMENT. EXCELLENT ENTRIES RECEIVED. MANY PROMINENT PLAYERS, Excellent entries have been received for the New Zealand golf championship tournament, which opens at Middlemore on Friday, September 5. The total is 112. For the open championship 59 amateurs and 13 professionals, including practically all the best golfers in New Zealand, have entered. The draw for the first day's play, which will be made by the committee of the Auckland Club, will be published to-morrow. Advice has been received from the Golf Council that in addition to the various trophies to be played for, the Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe, is presenting a silver challenge cup to be held from year to year by the competitor returning the best single round in the four rounds of the open championship. The following are the leading amateurs who have entered for the tournament, and whose national handicap does not exceed 7: —A. D. S. Duncan, Wellington; J. Goss, J. Harold, Wanganui; E. M. Bidwell, Wairarapa; T. H. Horton, Masterton; R. M. George, R. O. Gardner, and G. F. Gunson, Maungakiekie; R. D. Wright and H. B. Lusk, Auckland. The following professionals have entered: —J.
