De Groot, ship's surgeon cf the Ruahine, which arrived at Wellington on Saturday morning, is an ex-capttiin of the Royal Army Medical Corps, and had much army experience. He served in the Ashanti war, the Boer war, the Zula r»- it' hellion of 19C6, and in the Great War in Egypt and France, besides being on <&e ambulance shipping transports at the end of the war.
