ATTACK BY TWO STRANGERS.
HERNE BAY ROAD INCIDENT.
OFFENCE IN EARLY EVENING.
An impudent robbery from the person was perpetrated in Heme Bay Road shortly after six o'clock last evening, when an elderly man, Mr. Charles Philpot, was attacked by iwo young men, who rifled his pockets and took about £12 in cash.
Mr. Philpot was returning home from the city and had just left the tram at the terminus. When about half-way to his house, which ;s less than 100 yards down the Heme Bay Road, he was accosted by two' strangers, who :ntroduced themselves bv asking a question about a football match. Before Mr. Philpot could reply the men seized him violently by his arms and dragged at his clothing. Within a few seconds they obtained his money and made off into the darkness. As they were both active young men, Mr. Philpot did not attempt to give chase, but reported the matter to the police. The road is very badly lighted at the spot where the robbery took place. The circumstances of the roobery indicate that the assailants were aware of the identity of Mr. Philpot, and were acquainted with his movements
