ORCHESTRAL CONCERT.
A delightful musical was given by the Auckland Amateur Musical Club in the Grafton Hall last evening. An exceptionally fine; orchestra of nearly players, under the baton of Mr. W»- Edgar Webb,i was responsible for a number of excefleatJiy rendered items. > The orchestra was balanced, and some of the effects, especially in the crescehdos, were of a standard well above the ordinary. There wps a wide variety in the orchestral nambers,.which included Schubert's " Ko3amuhd *'' ture, "Cleopatra," a triumphal marcl» fey Maheinelfj, " Boccacio *''■:. (Suppe)V. a selection from the' " Pirates of zance " : (Stillivah), and , a fantasia: on Sea Songs, ,all of which met .With: en-, thusiastic applause. A number of solo items were also given. Mr,: G, Barnes,: who possesses a fine tenor voice, sang " I Hear You Calling Me," in a manner thali dispkvyed his voice td ■ good, advantage, and ufor which he received a recall. " Welcome June " v was sung by Miss Mar? jpry Ifopper/ viiose _ delightSul mfeZzo* soprano was well suited [. to' Che song, which received an.,;enthusiastic encore. Mrs. L Wallace sangiHohm's" Still As the Night," in a;manner that captivated her hearers, and; well deserved the apphmso it evoked. Easthope-Martin's; ever-: popular song," Crown of -..; .'th<| year," was sung in a- spirited mahncr- by Mr. Selwyn Hamilton, and like those of the other soloists his item met with well- ; merited applause, .Several humbrOus monologues were contributed by Mr. Daii Flood, the Well-known Auckland entertainer, in- his usual inimitable style, and well appreciated, by :hls hearers. iflute solo by Mr. D{ O'Malley, and a vjolm solo by Mr, C Johhsoh, both of whOm: wssrewarrnly applauded/ completed a most enjoyable performance.
