DEPOSED GREEK KING.

HOPEFUL OF A RECALL.

INCOME N r OT SUFFICIENT.

LANDED PROPERTY SEIZED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received 7.55 p.m.) A. and N.Z. LONDON, July 27. Interviewed on behalf of the Daily Express, ex-King George of Greece said:— " I am convinced that it is only a matter of time when I shall be recalled to the Throne. " The plebiscite which dethroned me was ' faked.'

" We were never a rich family, bat the Republicans confiscated all my property, which is in lands in Greece. My small income is quite insufficient for niy needs."

The official announcement as to the result of the plebiscite taken in Greece in April to decide on the future political regime, stated that the votes in favour of a republic totalled 758,000, and those against the abolition of the monarchy, 325,000. The Royalists, headed by General Metaxas, accepted the vote as decisive. The republican Government forbade any attempt to restore the dynasty for five years. Prior to the taking of the plebiscite the King had been requested by the Republicans to abdicate, but this he flatly refused to do. In rejecting the proposal he also rejected the offer which was made conditional to his acceptance, namely, the retention of his Royal title and the receipt of fourfifths of his financial allowances.
